We’re looking for a fully-qualified Accountant, ideally with systems knowledge, to join our small, fast-paced Finance team (there’s 3 of us at the moment). Reporting into our Financial Controller, who leads our finance and accounting operations, you’ll ensure the smooth-running of our day-to-day finance function across our three entities (UK, USA and Germany). This includes overseeing our operational expenditure, income recognition and external grantmaking. You’ll use your technical expertise to support the increasing complexity of our operations, and embed and refine finance processes across our global organisation.
You’ll be responsible for:
Day-to-day finances including transaction processing, oversight of our Spendesk corporate spending platform to ensure transactions have been posted correctly, with the support of our Finance Assistant.
Month-end bank reconciliations, Xero to SalesForce reconciliations of income and grants payments, General Ledger reconciliations,month-end close and preparation of management accounts, alongside our Financial Controller.
Support the year-end external audit process across the three entities by producing supporting schedules for income and grants and any other information as requested by the auditors.
Support the Financial Controller in the year-end planning process to produce budgets and cashflow forecasts.
Ensuring that our existing finance controls, policies and procedures are operating and fit for purpose. You might define and refine finance processes.
Financial data analysis, e.g. designing reports to track spend, for example, budget vs. actuals or forecast vs. actuals.
Continuing our strong focus on good governance to ensure adherence to financial compliance, including the preparation and review of key control account reconciliation.
Working with the fundraising team to ensure our income projections are accurate based on our pipeline.
Management of VAT and other tax reporting on a quarterly and annual basis.

Be a fully qualified accountant (ACA or ACCA, CMA, AAT) - essential.
Have advanced Excel/Google sheets experience e.g. confident in building financial models.
Small team experience, perhaps in a small charity or start-up. You’ve enjoyed being part of a small, agile finance team and you’re reliable when juggling a varied workload.
Have a strong learning mindset - you can quickly pick up practices/regulations in other jurisdictions as required.
Have the ability to communicate financial issues to non-finance staff.
In addition to this:
Experience in a nonprofit is a nice to have but not essential.
Proficiency with US tax law and fiscal practices is beneficial.
Familiarity with Xero/Salesforce is again not essential, but experience with these or similar financial systems will help you be successful in this role.

We ask that applicants to this role are based within the UK. Although we have a small HQ in London, there’s no expectation for you to attend on a regular basis. At the same time, if you think you’d benefit from a desk in a co-working space close to your home, this can be arranged. Otherwise, you just need a great home wifi connection and we’ll provide you with everything else you need to be successful in your role.
On top of this, we’ll bring the global team together once per year and individual teams will meet to work together once per year (when it’s safe to do so)!
