THE CHALLENGE

At Founders Pledge, our goal is to move our member’s funds to the highest impact funding opportunities globally. Our Research Team is responsible for investigating which opportunities we should be advising our members to give to, allowing us to steer a potential $8bn in grantmaking, in their direction.

Our team investigates broad cause areas - the long-term future of humanity, helping the current generation and animal welfare. Since 2017, we’ve rigorously evaluated climate change interventions and our work has been featured in the NYT, Vox, Washington Post and the Guardian. We’re now looking to further scale our research-based grantmaking program and move more funds in the climate space.
About the role
This is a brilliant opportunity to use your research skills to influence tens of millions of dollars in high-impact climate opportunities.

You’ll be working autonomously to delve into climate research, from landscaping investigations and funding investigations into individual organizations, to shallow investigations into relevant methodological questions. In addition to making funding opportunity recommendations and writing them up, you’ll also support our Philanthropic Advisors, who provide expert advice and recommendations to our members.

Depending on your experience (see below), you could also play a pivotal role in our Climate Change Fund, making decisions on grantmaking and managing relationships with charities/nonprofits.

About you

We’re looking for candidates that fit into one of the following profiles:

Profile 1 - The Experienced Researcher

You have substantial experience autonomously leading rigorous research projects (preferably within climate change), with:

  • Strong methodological skills and experience with quantitative frameworks/models.

  • Knowledge of EA methodology, understanding of cause/intervention prioritization, counterfactual and Bayesian thinking etc.

  • Broad understanding of the climate space, e.g. politics, policy, energy technology, philanthropy landscape.

  • A commitment to social impact with strong understanding of impact maximisation and the nuances of charity evaluation from multiple worldviews.

Salary: Up to £65k/EUR65k/$100k

Profile 2 - The Grantmaker

You’re an experienced grantmaker with strong research experience (as above), which would allow you to effectively manage our Climate Change Fund. You’ve:

  • Managed large (multi-thousand dollar) grants to individual organisations, potentially as part of a large foundation.

Salary: Up to £85k/EUR85k/$130k

Location: UK, Europe, US (East Coast Preferable)
